If I were a celebrity...
My favorite past time is watching TV. My husband and I have been known to make plans around watching TV shows. I'll be the first to admit that I love mindless celebrity swathed entertainment. I began thinking, as we are entering into awards season, a time when we sit around the tube and oogle at the parade of stylized chiffon cladded stars, what if I were a celebrity? Sure I would enjoy the fanfare and the pomp. Sure I would make good fodder for a reality TV show (questionable, I know but stick with me here). There are those celebrities that live in the spotlight and those that hide in the shadows but most (even though for some celebrities it is an oxymoron to their fame) are philanthropic. The majority of celebrities out there, even those best known for their inappropriate behavior, donate money, stand up for causes, and speak for those who are unable. So I wonder then, what would I do if I were a celebrity? First and foremost, I believe that I would try to raise awareness for the educators in our country and I would donate as much money as I could to teachers. I would want to 'celebratize' teachers and make them the stars of today. I would want to spend time at children's hospitals and animal shelters and do public service announcements to raise awareness for cancer and traumatic brain injury. I would try to be a role model for young women (and men) by choosing worthy projects and highlighting all the good that I can I do. I would be so engaged in all this good-doing, gosh, there'd hardly be time to be a celebrity! Ah, one can dream... and thankfully many of the things listed above are practices that anyone can do anytime, famous or not, and still make a difference. So go out today and do some good... share what you do in the comments section or on our Facebook page.
