Caught You Being Good
This website is dedicated to finding goodness in the world. The media focuses on the negative and this website will focus on positive "feel good" stories. If you have a positive story please send it in to share with others.
According to the confucious philosophy, a person who is working on their JEN is working not only to improve themselves, but to improve others. A person observing Jen works on their character by focusing on humanity, benevolence, and kindness. Your Jen ratio should be five positives to every negative. As a trainer in positive behavior support, I tell teachers to work on 5 behavior specific praises for every time they correct a student in their classroom. This same advice is given to parents.
According to the philosophy, even the things you watch or read have an affect on your character. Do this experiment: Turn on the television for the evening news and then watch the next 3 hours of television. Count how many positives you hear and then how many negatives you hear. If your Jen Ratio is not five to one, then it's time to start seeking more positive in your life.
Our personal philosophy is to do at least three kindnesses each day. These can be simple things like dropping a penny on the floor for a child to find, picking up an item that has been knocked off a rack at the store, smiling at someone who seems tired, letting someone in while driving, or sending an email to someone to tell them I appreciate their product. See how many you can do.
In Honor of Sandy Hook- We are upping the challenge to 26 Acts of Kindness this week- Please send in your acts of kindness as a list to this website once you have completed them. Let's encircle the world with kindness.
